Zutano Avocado Tree

Persea americana 'Zutano'

Very similar to Fuerte, the ‘Zutano’ Avocado Tree produces green thin skinned avocado fruits. If you’re not a fan of the typical avocado, the mild low-oil flavor of Zutano might be right for you. Prized as making a good companion tree to Type-A avocado Trees. This tree can be 35′ at maturity or pruned to work with your landscape. Perfect way to add edible plants to your landscape!

Zutano is a Mexican variety that was developed in Fallbrook, CA in 1926. Popular in California’s San Juaquin Valley, where winters get too cold for Hass.

It is best to also fertilize your avocado Feb-Sept as well. Plant in full sun, on the south side of your property to protect the tree from extreme wind. Plant 8-10 feet away from buildings. Drape a frost cloth over young trees during hard frost.
