With a buttery, creamy texture very similar to Hass but with less oil content, the Bacon Avocado makes for the perfect mid-size avocado tree. Larger than the dwarf ‘Wurtz’ but smaller than the typical full size 35’+ tree, perfect for gardeners who want lots of avocado but at a more easily managed size. Bacon is a hybrid of 2 Mexican varieties, cultivated by James Bacon in 1954, Buena Park, CA.

Able to survive temps down to nearly 25°, making is popular in areas where other avocado struggle. California’s Central Valley and Bay Area (San Francisco) gardeners will find this the perfect choice!

Care Tip

Avocados need to be planted in organically rich soil with excellent drainage. Water regularly and more frequently during the growing season of February-September. It is best to also fertilize your avocado February-September as well. Plant in full sun, on the south side of your property to protect the tree from extreme wind. Plant 8-10 feet away from buildings. Apply a frost cloth over your young tree during hard frost.
